• Starch if you love a crisp fabric. I often like my quilting cotton to behave almost like paper while I piece, but starching is absolutely a personal preference.
• Prewashing is personal, too. I generally do not prewash quilting cotton and prefer using color catchers on the first wash. If shrinkage or color transfer concerns you, prewashing may make more sense for your project.
